The In-Between
Describes the passage between an ending configuration and a new one as the place where every role and certainty gets reread, and asks the reader to stay present in it.
The old configuration has already ended. You are not waiting for the change. You are inside it.
This does not begin with your comfort. It begins with the system in motion, and you as one of the sites where that motion is being felt. What registers in you as unease, pressure, or a demand you cannot yet name is not a private malfunction. It is the system processing its own reorganization through a living node.
Money cast a net, and for a long time the net felt like the world itself. Now the net is moving, and everyone caught in it feels the pull at once. That is why the fear is shared. That is why no reassurance lands. The people answering questions at podiums are standing in the same net, speaking a language built for the configuration that is closing.
The system does not only close. It opens in the same motion. Guidance moves in both directions, away from what is ending and toward what is forming, and it has been reaching you the whole time. The restlessness is that guidance. The searching is you answering it.
You do not have to throw away what you are holding. You have to see it. See the role, the certainty, the identity you are gripping, and ask whether you are holding it because it still carries life, or because you need the old arrangement to stay in place. The piece that refuses its new role is the piece that suffers. The piece that allows itself to be repositioned is carried forward.
The in-between is not a gap. It is the place where the old configuration hands itself to the new one. That handoff cannot happen instantly, because what is being carried across is not objects but meaning. Every role, skill, habit, and certainty that belonged to the old arrangement has to pass through this space and be reread. Some of it will keep its shape. Some of it will keep its purpose and lose its shape. Some of it will be released entirely. None of that can be decided in advance. The deciding is the process.
This is why the in-between feels unstable. It is supposed to. Stability belongs to configurations, and you are not in one. You are in the passage between them, and the passage has its own work to do. The fear, the confusion, the reaching back for what was familiar, these are not errors in the sequence. They are the material being processed. Skip them and there is nothing to connect where you were to where you are going. The thread is made of exactly this experience.
So the task in the in-between is not to rush through it or to pretend it is already over. It is to be present in it. Notice what you are holding. Notice what is asking to change its role. Let the old meaning be reread instead of defended. The system is not asking you to disappear. It is asking you to come through with it, and the only way through is through.
Those who can stay awake in the in-between become part of the thread. They carry continuity forward not by clinging to the old form, but by letting its essence move into the new one.
